Engine cranks, won't start. Tach goes backwards?

My 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 has been sitting for a few months, so I charged the battery. It cranked, ran for a moment, then sputtered and died, as if it ran out of fuel.

Not real good with troubleshooting, but am trying.

I can hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned on.

I can't seem to locate the fuel pressure valve- I think I'm supposed to look for a Schrader valve? Was planning to depress the pin to see if fuel shoots out. (don't have a pressure gauge)

Random Youtube video says that I should look at the tach when cranking and if the tach needle moves, the CPS is working. Well, when I crank, the needle moves backwards. This is confusing me a lot. Tach is aftermarket, and worked properly for years.

I shot carb cleaner into a sensor hole in the air intake hose… Seemed to run for a moment the first time, but maybe not. Does nothing now.

Planning to borrow a OBD2 scanner tomorrow… And will try to check for spark. And I need to figure out where the fuel pressure valve is. Any other ideas?

Got it to start, not sure what was wrong… But not going to complain!
