Can I still tow 2000 lbs with a crack in my bumper?

There's a crack in my bumper and was wondering if I can still tow 2000lbs with my ford ranger. It's small crack around the trailer hitch ball.

NO. It's not safe.

Bumper? You dumphuk, you shouldn't be towing anything with your bumper. Cracked or not. Find some support to hook it to, or much like your sex life, admit you're not equipped to do the job.

It's probably okay. For a nominal fee you can have your mechanic inspect it. The hitch should be bolted to the chassis and not the bumper cover, but this is not a bad time for an inspection.

No bumper is used for towing so any crack sheer won't affect ability to haul. If the towing 'ball' or hitch.frame itself has a crack or fracture? Then do NOT tow. Get it checked out as soon as possible. The ball and frame mounted on car for towing is what takes stress and loads of any towing. If this is OK? Then any body work /bumper dents .cracks ought not to affect towing pack. However for peace of mind and as you are unsure. Any competent garage can advise and very likely for free!

I guess some of these folks are not familiar with the Ranger's bumper that comes from Ford ready to tow. Whether it is safe or not depends on the crack. If it got cracked from towing something, it's probably not safe.

Not by the bumper - the Ranger bumpers are only meant for 100max# tongue weight, and the crack means an early bumper failure. Several manufacturers should have a 2" hitch receiver available to bolt to your frame around the spare-tire well; they should be good for up to 250# tongue weight, although the Ranger is meant for 2000max# gross trailer weight with the V6-4.0, 5R55-W automatic, and 220mm Visteon with 3.54:1 gears.
