Would it be crazy to sell my car and buy something I'd like more?

I have an 01 Dodge neon, 150k and I've had it for a little over a year. Just got new brakes on the back passenger side and it won't need anymore brake work for a year or more. It was just done at Just Tires last week. I paid 1700 for the car. I would really love to sell it and get this mustang I saw on CL. It's an 01 Ford Mustang. I want something that's a bit more youthful. I'm a 24yr old young lady. It's selling for 1300! Salvage titled which doesn't bother me b/c I only have liability coverage at the moment anyhow. What do you think? I like hearing opinions lol it's got about the same mileage as the car I have now. The mustang has a ticking noise but so does my neon. Thanks guys! Would it be crazy to sell my car and buy something I d like more - 1

Never, ever, EVER buy a salvage title car. Never, ever, EVER believe what the seller of a "story" car has to say about it. Your interests are not aligned. Do not assume that the ticking noise your Neon has and the ticking noise in this Mustang are the same issue or non issue either. You are not a mechanic, you know very little about cars.

I understand that you want something more youthful but my honest opinion is that buying this Mustang would be a foolish move for you. Find one with no stories, a good title, no accidents. It's not like the Mustang is some rare car, they are everywhere. Lastly, have a Pre Purchase Inspection performed by a trusted and reputable mechanic BEFORE you purchase the car. Do not rely on your own seat of the pants feel.

Never replace brakes on one side only. It makes the car dangerous to drive.
No decent mechanic will do this as they can be liable in an accident.

You are swapping a car (probable current value 12 to 13,000) on which you have sorted out many of it's problems for a car with many more problems, most of which you won't find out about until AFTER you've purchased it.
If you want a Mustang (fine, we were all young once) then get one; but get one which you have had inspected and known and probably faults have been pointed out to you.
I wouldn't walk away from a car on CL with a salvage title, I'd run.

  • What will take you to buy a all electric car. What minimum range would you like? I'm looking at the Detroit car show and gm and ford are really pushing electric and self driving cars. I'm wondering how most people will pay for one of these cars.
  • Should i sell my japanese car to feel more American? One day i woke up and i realized i was born in America, so it would make sense to drive an American car. It feels more natural. I own a Honda but i want to buy a Ford. But i don't know if this is a good decision because asian cars are more reliable than american cars. Is this a good decision or do you consider this stupid, just a phase, and unnecessary in your opinion? The whole point of this is just to "feel more american"
  • How to give an idea for something to like Chevy or ford or something? I have an idea that I know would make a lot of money for them but I want to tell them, not anyone else about it, and should I try and patent it first?
  • Sell current lease car to buy a new car? Good idea? So I live in CT and I wanted to know if this could be possible. I was told that if I wanted to I could sell my leased 2016 Ford Fusion energi to a spot like CarMax a couple of months before the lease was done and if they would offer a higher price then the remaining amount owed on my lease I could do that and pay off the lease and then keep the extra money as a down payment towards the purchase of another car?
