Should I get a cold air intake?
I have a 2000 v6 ford mustang, I was wanting to know if it's worth it buying a cold air intake. I've heard from places that it's not Bc it really don't add HP or torque like they say. But others say it can add 10+. I can find some on eBay for like $40 or $50 so is it worth it?
Heres the deal about Cold Air Intake: All that is being done here, is to run a 3"or 4" hose from in front of the car to the air cleaner. It is called Cold Air because cars/trucks normal air intake starts inside the engine compartment where it gets hot when the engine is warmed up. The air out in front of the car/truck is cooler. A cooler Air/Fuel mixture means you can put more of it into each cylinder. More Air/Fuel… More power. Here is the problem: The results can be small or they could be pretty good but until you try it, you do not know if it is worth it. Also, if you live colder climates, it can make it harder to start the engine. These areas I recommend you do not waste your money. One last thing: Most Kits comes with a K&N filter included. This part alone can be the most important in the quest for more hp. The K&N filter, replaces your more restrictive air filter. I recommend these but they are not throw-away type. You need to clean them & re-coat them on a regularly.
Waste of money, they do nothing for a car
If you car had a carb, then maybe it could add a few HP. But on your engine with a MAF sensor and fuel injection, it's a total waste of money. In fact, it'll DECREASE power. Read this article on cold air intakes

It will give the car a more throater sound, but it's not going to gain that much. 2-3 Hp at best.
A CAI is pretty much a waste of money, maybe you might get 1 - 2 HP nothing more, junk just like the $20 elec turbos on eBay.
Nope.Put your money toward engine maintenance to increase engine life & a more responsive car.
Take a good look, mustangs come stock with a cold air intake, follow the ducting lmao. My old 5.0's pulled from the lower front inside both fenders. Your probably limited 2 one side, but similar system. Those aftermarket junkers won't do much unless they turn the check engine light on. If they do that, the engine runs in cold loop, meaning it uses more fuel, so yeah it would feel stronger, but bang for the buck? No thanks. Kirk kinda had a decent explanation of what they do.
remember with engine management, the computer controls the output and fuel trims for a given situation by using data to guess at engine load. It uses several data streams to get to that point. More air won't mean more power without more fuel plain and simple, and even jacking up the pressure and bigger injectors only address the problem by 40 % or so. The real system that needs to be changed for more power is the data map in your ecm for lack of a better way to explain.
if youve done any reading you realize i'm all for dyno tuning. Thats how you build power in a modern engine. Almost no boltons work without it. Really want to scratch your head, add a turbo or supercharger then wonder why its spitting and coughing lol. More air, more fuel. The engine runs and runs well at a set air/fuel ratio. Cooler denser air does not change that ratio. Its an equation. What you do to one side, you must do to the other side to have any shot at performance. Been this way to many yrs.
It will add about 5 hp in the top of the rpm range, save for something else like 3.73 rear gears
- Why is the A/C on 2002 Ford Taurus is not blowing cold air My freon is fine but when I have the A/C on max the motor engages intermittently. Should the motor run constantly while the A/C is on high? If it doesn't, any idea what could be wrong? Coincidentally, a squeal from the belt started when I started to use the A/C. It squeals when I accelerate, whether the A/C is on or not.
- Why does my cold air intake make my car super slow? I bought a cold air intake for my 2015 ford taurus put it on and lost power alot of power. I didn't use the normal air intake tubing i stayed with the tubing that comes in the car and put a filter at the end and reconnected the one sensor. Now my friend did this to his car and it gave him more power i don't know why mine loses power
- Can i unplug my mass air flow sensor to get my cold air intake to work better on my 2015 ford taurus? When i put the cold air intake on my car it went really slow so if I unplug the sensor would it fix that problem
- How dangerous is water to a cold air intake? I have a 1999 Ford Ranger that I recently bought and it has pretty bad gas mileage and I'd like to fix that and the power behind the engine. Where I live we get pretty significant rain fall and some small puddles that you end up having to drive through. The last think I want to do is hydro lock my engine. Are heavy rain and small puddles actually a danger for hydro locking a CAI? Even if I were to buy one of the waterproof jackets?
