2000 Ford Mustang won't start? Is it just loose battery terminals or something?
Just bought this car from someone yesterday. Wouldn't start so we tried jumping it. Still didn't start so he tried tightening something on the battery with his hand and not using any tools or anything. Car started after that and the test drive went real smooth. So I bought the car and now tonight the theft light is flashing and when I try to start the car it just makes that click click click noise and then the service engine light pops up along with the red battery light… I'm hoping this is just because I need to tighten something on the battery, like the previous owner did yesterday before my mechanic buddy test drove it. I really know nothing about cars so don't know if this is gonna be a major problem or a quick fix.
Id say you prolly need to get down to orielly's and get you a set of battery cables. Don't buy the repair ends unless you like popping the hood and wiggling the battery terminals. Get a good gauge of cable, larger than stock. Fords use amps to turn over, usually more than any other make. Big cables are gonna be less future problems. Clean the terminals every 3 months or so with a terminal cleaner. Ford is funny about blacking up the terminals. Clean and tight is the rule. Invest in good battery felt washers and change them every yr or so.
It could be that the starter the has gone bad. A similar thing happen to me a few months ago with my 2005 Suzuki Forenza. Check at Autozone or Oreilly, usually they are about $100.
There are a lot of videos on Youtube about starters.
BTW, sometimes cars don't start when there's battery acid on the terminals. Make sure to have that cleaned once in a while.
Check your gasoline is old and decrepit (next time Stable gas treatment's ad shows the guy with the fancy hot rod boat that won't crank, take it to heart), and if the car was parked with anything but a full tank, it probably has condensed several inches of water in the gas now.
Get some Sea Foam and see if it will help, and get that battery fully charged. Top up the fuel with the Sea Foam and premium gas.
Any numbers of sensors may have decided to glue themselves shut (IAC is a favorite in situations like this), and you might need to just warm up the whole car with a portable heater to get it running again.
Check the oil. If it's worn out and low, change it, putting in a good grade of synthetic like Mobil 1 (the synthetics are less affected by cold conditions and storage).
If it still won't start, do NOT keep trying over and over until the starter overheats and ruins your day. Get out the workshop manual and start going through all the steps in the troubleshooting guide.
Check that you're getting spark at all the plugs, fuel to the motor, etc, etc.
Pull the OBD II trouble codes; you might have a stored code that will help explain things.
Check out your battery cables - you can try to clean them or replaced them.
Check for alternator voltage
Sounds like first you need a new battery and then clean each battery cable end! If it still just clicks then it could be the solonoid on the starter!
Check your PCM fuse. That could be your problem
- I just bought a 1990 Ford Ranger and it is doing something weird? As stated in the title I bought a 1990 Ford Ranger today and it had recently gotten some parts replaced including: Fly Wheel, Starter, tires and some others. But the problem is, when I'm stop and accelerate the whole truck shakes and jiggles and I'm not exactly sure what it is? Any comments help. It's a Ford Ranger 1990 Automatic 4wd. Also, I'm not sure if this is normal on these old of cars but when on the freeway going about 65 that's red lining it.
- Pcm, loose wires, no start, ford? I have a 2000 ford windstar that quit working. I replaced the starter. The mechanic tried the spare key, but it wasn't programmed. I took it to a dealer and they ran tests on the pcm. Pcm doesn't communicate. The wires are loose. If I fixed the wires, would that fix the car or would I still need to replace the pcm?
- Ford Mustang 2004 car won't start after battery terminal changed? Had my battery in my 2004 ford Mustang changed. The terminal broke and was a little loose, but the car still ran. Today we changed the terminal to the battery and now the car won't start. Every thing was fine earlier with the loose terminal, but when the terminal was changed, the car decides not to start.
- How to give an idea for something to like Chevy or ford or something? I have an idea that I know would make a lot of money for them but I want to tell them, not anyone else about it, and should I try and patent it first?
