Is the Ford Thunderbird gone?

Is the Ford Thunderbird gone?
when did it go away?

Production 1955-1997, 2002-2005

Ford's plans to revive the Thunderbird name at some point in the future have been confirmed by Ford Division president, Steve Lyons. He has stated, "We promised all along that this Thunderbird would have a limited production run, and we're being true to our word. Thunderbird was a terrific image builder for the Ford brand showroom at a time when we needed it. Now, we're in the midst of a major product onslaught, including more news on the Mustang at this month's New York Auto Show. At Ford, we're fortunate to have several dream cars, including the new Ford GT and Ford Mustang. For now, the Thunderbird nameplate will be placed on our shelf. But we'll keep it polished for future use." A clue was given by Alan Mulally, Ford's current CEO, that under his leadership, Ford will start to remain more loyal to its customers and nameplates, and will continue to stick with and improve successful nameplates to keep customers loyal to the brand, and the revival of the Taurus was the first such move. No further word has emerged, however, about when the next generation Thunderbird will see production, or whether it will be a sport model, personal luxury car or fill another upscale market niche.

Maybe sometime in 2011 or 2012?

Gone and hopefully for good! It was an interesting idea, bringing back the nameplate with a retro-styled car. The problem was it was way overpriced, considering most people who purchase a car want value for dollars spent. Why pay $28,000 plus for a car with limited seating and appeal when you can buy a new similar car from Ford like a Crown Victoria brand new for about $20,000? The cars didn't sell well, so Ford dropped the line. I myself considered a similar car a few years ago… A Mercury Maurauder. An upgraded version of the Marquis, police handling package, power chip, fat tires and custom wheels, center console shifter. It was a really neat sedan, but again it was $5-7,000 more than a regular Marquis. I didn't buy it and it wasn't noticeably quicker for all the extra money.

Yes the t bird is gone… I think they discontinued it in the early 2000's the last models had a retro feel. My boyfriend's mom had they are adorable. Here's a link
