How do you determine if your car is under California or Federal emissions if your emissions sticker is gone?

I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 GL 4dr. Sedan. I need to know if my car is under California or federal emissions. I know you are suppose to have a sticker on your car that tells you but mine was destroyed over time so I really don't know. Is their another way to get this information? How would I find out?

Doesn't each state have their own emissions control system? Go to the DMV and find out.

Get the VIN and call the manufacturer. They will tell you if it is or not.

Go tot he dealer with the VIN and have them look it up.

I believe it matters WHERE YOU LIVE. If your residence is in Cal. Then you are under the Cal. Emissions regulations. If you live in Alaska and visiting Cal. Then Alaska emission standards is what matters.

If you live in California you are required to have the vehicle tested. Period! The rules are below:

California requires all vehicles to undergo a smog inspection EXCEPT: •Gasoline-powered vehicles model year 1975 and older.
•Natural gas-powered vehicles weighing over 14,000 lbs.
•Diesel-powered vehicles that: •Are model year 1997 and older.
OR
•Have a gross weight rating of over 14,000 lbs.

•Electric vehicles.
•Motorcycles.

Additionally, the following counties require smog checks in certain zip codes only:

•El Dorado
•San Diego
•Placer
•San Bernardino
•Sonoma
•Riverside
