Is a Ford Pinto a good first car?
Hi guys i'm a new driver and looking to buy my first car. I saw a car down the block called a Ford Pinto for $1,000 dollars. It looks fun and small
The last Pinto was made in 1980, meaning your first car will be at least 38 years old. Try to find something newer.
It's definitely a classic! They're hard to find. Go ahead. Just try not to get rear-ended.
American car brands are really bad quality. Especially the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep group is the bottom of the barrel. I'd say try to find something newer, and if you want my advice, go for a reliable, fuel efficient Japanese car as a 1st car.
NO. It is a death trap. Pintos were known for catching fire when they got rearended. It is an absolute piece of junk.
Yes
I wouldn't buy one.
The Ford Pinto was a fabulous car, but that is WAS -- a 40-ish years old vehicle could be good, but probably will not be.
The '71 came with an 1600cc English engine. The '72 came with either the English, or a 2000cc German engine. I had a '72 2000cc and it run UP the Grapevine doing 70-75 mph in top gear. '74-'80 came with the US made 2.3L and the big Federal bumpers. The '71-'73 look better, but that 2.3 motor was made in LOT of fords and that motor has lots of parts available.
Running condition for $1000 is a good deal.
The car is OK, but be aware if you are rear ended it may burst into flames and incinerate you
These have all been melted into better cars. Who you tryin to kid.
Car talk rated it #3 in their "Worst cars of the millennium" survey. See the source. As one contributor put it, "The car would do 75 mph in 2nd gear, shaking apart and sounding like a bat out of hell. In fourth gear, the top speed was 70 mph. What's wrong with this picture? You do the math."
What car was worst? The infamous Yugo.
I had a 1970 Capri; a closely related car in the Mercury line. By today's standards it was almost childish in its design. Reliability was even worse.
- I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street. Thank you very much about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car?
- Is the Ford Pinto really a deathtrap? I heard that the fuel tank would 'detonate' if you got rear ended. Is this true? Was the car any good at all? They don't have the Pinto here in Britain but my dad used to drive one when he was still in the States. If what I've heard is true, I'm guessing he's lucky to be alive.
- Is it a good idea to take my Ford Pinto to a demolition derby? I have a rusty old 1972 Ford Pinto and I was thinking of entering it in a demolition derby. Is this a good idea?
- Good first car? NSX? Muscle Car? I'm 15 and starting to think of some cars that I would want (and are possible to obtain, '67 Pontiac GTO '68 Roadrunner Hemi '70 Ford Torino '79 Firebird Formula 400 '85-'90 Camaro '67 Impala '73 Nova '78 Camaro '66 Oldsmobile Toronado So, would the value of the NSX be worth buying and fixing up? And which, if any, muscle car is the top of your list and why?
