Is a dealership the best place to get my car repaired?

I have a 2014 Ford vehicle that I haven't even had for a year yet. Someone rear ended me and now I have to take it in to repair the damage. The other persons insurance is covering the cost. Since the car is not even a year old, I want to make sure that I get OEM parts installed.

Is taking it to the Ford Dealership my best bet or will I be fine taking it to a respected independent? I just want to make sure I get it back the same way it was before.

I'll address a portion of your question, namely this - " I want to make sure that I get OEM parts installed".

Where the car gets repaired has ZERO impact on which brand of parts get used in the repair. THAT is in control of the insurance company since THEY are paying for the repair.

The only control you have is to insist to your insurance company that OEM parts are used. If they agree and cover it, fine. If not, you will have to pay the difference or live with the repairs that they chose.

Dealerships usually do the best work because they specialize on that specific brand of car, but they are very expensive. Since you won't be paying for the repairs anyway, you should definitely take the car to the dealership to insure you get the car repaired correctly.

Yes - if they have their own body shop or one that they authorize, I'd have it done there. They tend to be more expensive, but since you're not paying that shouldn't concern you. Most likely your "respected independent" would do just fine, but because the car is so new I'd use the dealer, assuming they have a good reputation. You can look on Yelp or one of those types of sites to check on ratings of the shops in question.

  • When I bring my car to get an oil hange at a ford dealership, do I just pull right into the service garage? I've never gotten one I'm a new driver. I was wondering if I'm supposed to pull into the garage (the desk and stuff is in the garage) or park, tell them I need an oil change, and wait for them to tell me to pull my car up.
  • Can I transfer my car payments and car to a 17year old from a buy here pay here place? I have a good question… I got a 98 jeep grand Cherokee limited from ridenowautosales.com I'm still currently making payments. A family friend told me he d sell me his 98 Ford v8 supercharged mustang for 500$ because he needs it gone. Back to the question, my friend is 17 and desperately needs a car would I be able to transfer the jeep and payments into his name? I love the jeep and all but not the 10mpg any help would be awesome!
  • What do I do when I need brake lines repaired? I have a 2001 ford focus and one of my rear metal brake lines cracked. I need a 3/16th in diameter and 14inches long metal brake line and can't find it in stores, at dealerships, online or anywhere. I've tried making my own but the flaring kit never works for me, id like to do it myself what do I do?
  • How long do cars take to get repaired after a fender bender? I know its hard to say, but I'm just looking for an estimate. I have a 2013 Ford Focus SE Hatchback and I rear ended someone, my hood, bumper, fenders, and headlights are either hanging off, bent, or cracked. Its not a huge accident, so how long can I expect it to be at the shop after I get an estimate? The place isn't too busy and the owner even offered to tow my car there for free for an estimate.
