How to start a mower when pulling behind a Ford 8N tractor?

I recently got an attachment mower to pull behind my 8N, but can't figure out how to start the actual mower. Anybody own this tractor with the mower and know how?

Just AWAG is it needs to be connected to the PTO drive on the tractor and that must also be engaged with the levers. You might also try some farm blogs.

There are two types of pull behind mowers… Those that use the PTO (power take-off) coupling, and those that have an on-board engine of their own. Obviously, those with an engine would have to be started when you are ready to start cutting… But, like the PTO driven decks, they may also have a "blade engage" option. (If you think of a smaller riding mower, you'll remember there's a lever that lets you 'engage', or 'turn off/on' the blades). There should be a lever, or cable, that can extend to within your reach when seated on the tractor, that will do this. I'm assuming you bought this as a used deck from an individual, and not new from a dealer… If you'd bought it new, the parts list and operation would be shown in the owner's manual. Buying it from another individual, they are likely to have kept the linkage from the tractor to the deck.

If you can't find it, then I'd suggest contacting the seller… It's only fair that they tell you about what your missing.

And you have to engage the Pto there's usually a lever on the side of the transmission below the seat. On my ford based tractor it's on the left but that's a lot newer than yours. If the Pto shift doesn't rotate you need to sort that out.
