How to put on a serpentine belt on a 99 ford contour with a 2.0l vct engine?
My serpentine belt snapped so I went to advanced auto parts and bought a new belt. I have looked at the belt diagram on my car and it does not match my pulley system so I tried to put the belt through the pulleys and there's a lot of extra slack at the bottom can anyway give me the correct diagram or help me out?
I'd bet the diagram is the right one, sometimes it is very difficult to get them right. You can Google the make and year and get it that way.
1. You need a a belt tension release tool. A pulley with a square hole is what you are looking for. A socket wrench with a long arm will provide the leverage.
2. You need to follow the diagram. When placed on the tensioner, the slack is zero.
The real trick is that the top pulley is on a heavily spring loaded tensioner arm that needs to be pulled up out of the way and then lowered back down onto the installed belt.
Would I be correct if I guessed the below diagram is like your car with the exception of that pulley that is top center sitting way lower on your car?
Try this diagram this is shown in my gates belt guide make sure the tensioner rides in the place shown in the diagram if it isn't use a ratchet to move the tensioner to the correct place
- New serpentine belt squeals? My dad replaced the serpentine belt on my car (07 Ford Fusion SEL) last weekend when I was home. I noticed my car makes grinding noises when I reverse it and a squealing/peeping noise when I turn now. Should I take it in and have a mechanic look at it? My car has never made that noise before, so it has to be from the new belt.
- How long will this serpentine belt last? Its on a 2010 ford fusion. There's a big rip in it there's about 1/4 inch width left in one spot. How long will it last before breaking? I need to go 3 miles
- 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0L SES flex fuel a/c bypassed by serpentine belt? I got a diagram from my mechanic in town for bypassing a/c pulley with a shorter serpentine belt but the back of the belt seems to be rubbing just slightly on the a/c pulley as it goes around. Is there any way of getting to the a/c pulley to remove it from the bottom of the car instead of having to remove all of the pulleys?
- Serpentine belt 98 ford explorer v6 4.0 SOHC? There's a loud ticking noise coming from the serpentine belt area when I start my car. If I stand in front of the car; the noise is coming from the drivers side. It stops upon acceleration but I don't know what it is… Is the timing chain on the drivers side?
