How long will this serpentine belt last?
Its on a 2010 ford fusion. There's a big rip in it there's about 1/4 inch width left in one spot. How long will it last before breaking? I need to go 3 miles
I'd take it off and with you to the auto parts store. If you need to drive you'll likely make it but that way you won't know if any of the pulley bearings are bad. Take the belt off and spin all the pulleys to make sure none are dry or gritty feeling. You should also check them for play.
It won't last. Get a car that isn't a PoS.
NOT very long
I wouldn't risk it, replace it As soon as possible, one belt runs the whole system it fails, you will have much bigger problems.
The engine will last for about 1 minute if that belt breaks.
Bbj
The belt might last you the 3 miles, but even if it breaks on you, the engine can still run for a very short while. You will just have no power steering, the electrical system will draw off the battery, and the coolant will not circulate through the engine which means the engine will overheat in a short time, but you should still be able to limp the car 3 miles with all that considered, unless the engine just stops running altogether, then you'll have to get out and push.
Might make it - might not
Nobody can give a definitive answer. It may or may not.Other factors come into play e.g.Sudden acceleration.high speeds etc
if we can get where we need to without using car? ( taxi? Lift?) then why risk it packing up at side of road.
your choice end of day. At least you have checked under hood but why? Was it noisy? Odds are imminent failure but exact time or distance nobody can forecast.
- How to put on a serpentine belt on a 99 ford contour with a 2.0l vct engine? My serpentine belt snapped so I went to advanced auto parts and bought a new belt. I have looked at the belt diagram on my car and it does not match my pulley system so I tried to put the belt through the pulleys and there's a lot of extra slack at the bottom can anyway give me the correct diagram or help me out?
- New serpentine belt squeals? My dad replaced the serpentine belt on my car (07 Ford Fusion SEL) last weekend when I was home. I noticed my car makes grinding noises when I reverse it and a squealing/peeping noise when I turn now. Should I take it in and have a mechanic look at it? My car has never made that noise before, so it has to be from the new belt.
- How long will my Ford Focus last? I have a 2006 Ford Focus with about 91,000 miles on it. I'm the second owner and the first owner took super good care of it and had been in no crashes or anything. I typically drive about 5,000 miles a year. Does anyone have an idea of how long it will last, or how long these types of cars typically last?
- 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0L SES flex fuel a/c bypassed by serpentine belt? I got a diagram from my mechanic in town for bypassing a/c pulley with a shorter serpentine belt but the back of the belt seems to be rubbing just slightly on the a/c pulley as it goes around. Is there any way of getting to the a/c pulley to remove it from the bottom of the car instead of having to remove all of the pulleys?
