Serpentine belt 98 ford explorer v6 4.0 SOHC?

There's a loud ticking noise coming from the serpentine belt area when I start my car. If I stand in front of the car; the noise is coming from the drivers side. It stops upon acceleration but I don't know what it is… Is the timing chain on the drivers side?

Its probably an idler pulley. Run the truck for 10 minutes and then turn it off. Use the back of your fingers to touch the back of all the pulleys in the middle where the bolt is. If the bearings are bad in a pulley it will be very hot

That ticking noise can be fuel injectors which Is normal and not a concern. Timing chain tensioner maybe. You can remove the valve cover and see if the timing chain is jumping around. If so then I would proceed to remove the timing chain cover to check the guides and hydraulic tensioners. If all is well with the timing chai then lifters are the next suspect. Over time dirt can be trapped between the lifters and create a ticking noise. It is not so serious nor good. Getting the oil and filter change should help.

  • How to put on a serpentine belt on a 99 ford contour with a 2.0l vct engine? My serpentine belt snapped so I went to advanced auto parts and bought a new belt. I have looked at the belt diagram on my car and it does not match my pulley system so I tried to put the belt through the pulleys and there's a lot of extra slack at the bottom can anyway give me the correct diagram or help me out?
  • New serpentine belt squeals? My dad replaced the serpentine belt on my car (07 Ford Fusion SEL) last weekend when I was home. I noticed my car makes grinding noises when I reverse it and a squealing/peeping noise when I turn now. Should I take it in and have a mechanic look at it? My car has never made that noise before, so it has to be from the new belt.
  • How long will this serpentine belt last? Its on a 2010 ford fusion. There's a big rip in it there's about 1/4 inch width left in one spot. How long will it last before breaking? I need to go 3 miles
  • 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0L SES flex fuel a/c bypassed by serpentine belt? I got a diagram from my mechanic in town for bypassing a/c pulley with a shorter serpentine belt but the back of the belt seems to be rubbing just slightly on the a/c pulley as it goes around. Is there any way of getting to the a/c pulley to remove it from the bottom of the car instead of having to remove all of the pulleys?
