Which car should be my first car?
I'm 16 (almost 17) and I'd like to buy my first car later this year or some time in 2016. I have to buy it myself. So, I'd say I'll spend about $5,000-$6,000. I'd really like to stick with a mid-size to full size sedan. I'd prefer a V6 with an automatic transmission. I like the upper trim levels. I also want something I can work on myself. Here's the cars I like.
-1976-79 Lincoln Town Car
-1977 Ford LTD 4-Door
-1985-91 Ford LTD Crown Victoria
-1994-97 Ford Thunderbird LX (5.0L V8 or 4.6L V8)(I heard the 3.8L V6 had some issues)
-2005-07 Ford Five-Hundred Limited
-2005-09 Ford Fusion SEL (V6)
-2005 Lincoln LS
-2006 Lincoln MKZ
Which car should I get and why?
Added (1). I forgot to add 2001-06 Volvo S80.
The Ford Fusion is the only car on that list that I would buy. It's also the best rated car by consumers and writers. The LS is a nice looking car with plenty of problems. It and the rest of the list are not very well rated cars and/or gas hogs. Adding the Volvo didn't change my opinion about the list. Except now you have a European car with high parts and maintenance costs. And a car made in Sweden, owned by a Chinese company. But if your main criteria was repairing yourself, the Thunderbird with the 5.0 engine would get the nod.

Hi so it is not going to be a new one and for that sort of money most like a near wreck.
so save up twice that at least before you even think about it.
What can you afford yearly in upkeep, insurance, and gas is the question…
The 76-79 Town Car or 77 LTD are the simplest, if you want to learn to work on it yourself. The radio will be about the most advanced electronics in those. Keep in mind something that old won't be as reliable as something newer, so if you get something like that to learn to work on, you better learn to work on it. Check everything, look under it for rust, and keep some of that budget for the little things you'll end up replacing.
Not to say it's hard to work on the later years - it's just not quite as easy. Check listings, go look at the cars, find the one that'll fit what you want the best.

- Which car is the best first car? - 1 I'm 16 and I'm going to be saving up to buy a car. I want to spend $1000-$5000. I will likely have it all the way through college. I'm looking for comfort, safety, space (I'd be hauling my stuff to college), and winter capability. - What car should I get for my first car? I'm 16 and about to buy my first car. I'm thinking about getting a 94 Ford Ranger (120k miles) with lifted suspension, off road tires, and a prerunner bumper. Would this be a reliable car throughout my high school years? Should I get that or should I just get a 2 door coupe?
