Where should I go to get my car fixed?
I have a 2007 Ford Focus SE and my MAS (map air flow) is bad. Engine idles too much and I'm burning gas twice as fast. I took it to one mechanic and he diagnosed that I needed a brand new one. For him to do it is 360$. I did so research and found another mechanic that's willing to do it for 200$, but he said there's no warranty on it and doesn't guarantee it will fix the problem because he hasn't seen it yet. I know it's a faulty MAS but should I go the first guy with the 360$ with a warranty or the second guy 200$ without a warranty? Need to know by Friday because I have scheduled appointments. Just trying to save some money, Thank you!
A MAF (mass airflow) sensor is EASY to replace. It's installed in the air duct between the air filter box and the throttle body. Loosen the clamps. Disconnect the electrical connector, slide out the old one and slip in the new one. Tighten the clamps and you're done. It's a 15-min job. Price it at rockauto.com
The first mechanic at 360$ is in writing with a lifetime warranty. The labor was high. The second dealer was over the phone, the labor is low.
I would first find out if the prices you have been quoted include LABOR(which is always a shock), and did you get these quotes in writing?
As for warranty vs. No warranty; how long would the warranty be for this?
Price one at a Ford Dealer.
- How much does it cost to get rust fixed? I have a '99 Ford Taurus and it has pretty severe rust on the rear wheel wells and rocker panels. The back half of my drivers side rocker panel has even fallen off! Someone told me they might have to cut out the rusted pieces and weld in new metal, but i was wondering about how much this might cost?
- What car should I get for my first car? I'm 16 and about to buy my first car. I'm thinking about getting a 94 Ford Ranger (120k miles) with lifted suspension, off road tires, and a prerunner bumper. Would this be a reliable car throughout my high school years? Should I get that or should I just get a 2 door coupe?
- Is it ok to drive a car with a transmission fluid leak for a week before getting fixed? I have a 2007 ford ranger with only 38k miles on it, recenntly I have been having minor delays when shifting into drive from reverse before it catches and I actually move forward. So i checked my transmission fluid which seems to be pretty low a good amount below the cross hatched area. So I added more fluid and then saw some leak onto the garage floor within 30mins. I have not seen any leak before, could i still drive it before i get it fixed next week without causing more damage?
- I took my car in to have the A/C fixed and now my windshield wipers don't work. What might be the problem? 2005 Ford Freestar Is this something I can fix easily myself or should I just bring it back to the shop?
