Where is my antifreeze going if no leak?
I have a 2002 ford focus zts that i have to add antifreeze to every week or two. Its not going into the engine, changed the oil and it was clean oil… Not leaking from exhaust pipe, not leaking from anywhere. Thermostat has already been changed… Where is it going
Added (1). I looked at everything, no smell in car, no wet spots on carpet, outside of car does smell like antifreeze after running for awhile. Oil is cleaner than ever, no bubbles.
Added (2). I think i'll go have a pressure test done
When you have an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test you'll find the source of the external or internal cooling system leaks. If an internal leak is found a cylinder leak-down test will show exactly where the internal leak is found.
Not all internal cooling system leaks go into the crankcase.
You may never see milky oil. Many times with minor gasket leaks, a small bit of water is drawn in on the intake stroke, and all the coolant is expelled during the exhaust stroke. Since you have to top it off once a week or so, the leak is very small. Pressure is probably building up in your coolant system.
Most likely the heater core is leaking under the carpet. Do you have a "sweet" smell in the car's interior?
If we have no external leak? Then it must be ingesting it. This suggest a possible gasket issue e.g. Inlet.
have we checked for antifreeze staining? E.g. Under water pump? In car? Is carpet damp? How much are we adding?
Anti-freeze either gets out on the windscreen or in the oil. The reason its disappearing is because it's being used- how did you think it worked?
Check your oil dipstick and see if it has bubbles on. If so then you probably have a leaking head gasket letting coolant into the crankcase.
- Water instead of antifreeze? Ford, gt500? My radiator has cracked and it spits out all the antifreeze. Don't have money to buy radiator at this moment so an I fine just putting water in it for a while. When I was refilling with antifreeze it would be empty within two days. Is it ok to just keep refilling it with water?
- My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
- I smell antifreeze? Causes? I drive a 1992 ford with 108,000 miles. I recently had everything in the cooling system replaced (radiator, all hoses and lines, thermostat & gasket) I drive about 140 miles a day and my truck is starting to smell like antifreeze coming from the ac, I take perfect care of my truck, engine has been steam cleaned it's spotless, and I do not see an obvious leak? And all the stuff was changed about 3 weeks ago
- Antifreeze pouring straight out as soon as It's poured in? I have a 1998 Ford Escort. The antifreeze pours out of what looks like to be the beginning of the exhaust. And it happens as soon as I pour it in even after the car has been turned off overnight. When It does drice it smokes badly but only toward the front of the car and not out of the tail pipe. What could be wrong with it?
