Water instead of antifreeze? Ford, gt500?

My radiator has cracked and it spits out all the antifreeze. Don't have money to buy radiator at this moment so an I fine just putting water in it for a while. When I was refilling with antifreeze it would be empty within two days. Is it ok to just keep refilling it with water?

You do not want to run your car with water for long!
i mean you can do it and you won't notice anything when the car is running but it can damage your engine over time
it can cause grim to build up in narrow passage ways and electrolysis, electrolysis can ruin your head or the block over time

these people answering saying yes and that they've ran their car with water for years obviously have never disassembled an engine and seen the damage that water can do to your engine.

so yes you can run your engine with water TEMPORARILY
but you want to get your radiator fixed, the sooner the better.
depending on where its cracked you can fix it with JB weld or autozone and orielys has products to fix a leaking radiator

If it leaks that bad, you are looking at a head gasket or worse if you let it go. Water is fine during the summer in a pinch but a leak that bad demands immediate attention, there's no putting that repair off on a cooling system.

In a emergency maybe but otherwise NO… And x2 how can you not afford a cheap radiator on a 60k+ car?

Don't keep it in for long I would try to save money for that new radiator. It is a gt 500 so it would be worth the new radiator

You have a GT500, but you can't afford $200 radiator? Seems legit.

NO! NO! Don't listen to any of them! This is ridiculous how ignorant people are.

water is bad. Very bad. First off youll end up with electrolysis in your block and you didn't tell me what year it is but if its older than the current will effect your O2 causing you to run lean all the time, causing burnt up rings, melted cat, and super poor MPG. The effects are worse if you have more computers.

not to mention the electrolysis will rust out your block.

Antifreeze has a much higher boiling point, and is less of a conductor and will not create electrolysis nearly as quickly as water.

Perhaps, but only temporarily, if you are not dealing with major temperature extremes in your part of the country.

Yea use water and if you wanna be safe get the antifreeze thats 100 percent and mix it with more water so ud have at least some antifreeze. I been doin this in my cadillac forever

Yes as long as the outside temp stays above freezing. But it's only a short term problem. You need to be using demineralized water anyway to prevent mineral buildup within the radiator. You don't have money to fix it, but you have money to keep buying gas for it. Hmm?
