I smell antifreeze? Causes?
I drive a 1992 ford with 108,000 miles. I recently had everything in the cooling system replaced (radiator, all hoses and lines, thermostat & gasket) I drive about 140 miles a day and my truck is starting to smell like antifreeze coming from the ac, I take perfect care of my truck, engine has been steam cleaned it's spotless, and I do not see an obvious leak? And all the stuff was changed about 3 weeks ago
Check the heater core in the dash pass side
Leak in the heater core.
Being 23 years old I say check your heater core (too).
The heater core may be the source of the odor. But it's rare that they leak. And the leak may be hidden. Check that all hose clamps are tight and the radiator cap is secured. After driving the vehicle, park it in a clean spot where there's no other drippings from other cars (oil, antifreeze, etc). Let it sit for about 30 minutes, then check under the car for any obvious signs of a leak. Then go from there.
Hi so what about the heater Matrix buried deep within the dashboard that has coolant running through it and when they leak as they eventually do with a ford truck. The cost of replacement is what sees the end of the truck. Then some disconnected fine in the summer time but come winter no heat in the cab.
Have 2015 escape smell antifreeze still under warranty 3 different dealers no help new car shouldn't smell
- Water instead of antifreeze? Ford, gt500? My radiator has cracked and it spits out all the antifreeze. Don't have money to buy radiator at this moment so an I fine just putting water in it for a while. When I was refilling with antifreeze it would be empty within two days. Is it ok to just keep refilling it with water?
- Old car, new radiator, red or blue antifreeze? I have 2L Ford pinto engined car, i will replace radiator and lower-upper hoses. so, should i use blue antifreeze or red (organic). my engine is old but radiator will be new, Red cause leak? Shell branded antifreezes are good?
- Where is my antifreeze going if no leak? I have a 2002 ford focus zts that i have to add antifreeze to every week or two. Its not going into the engine, changed the oil and it was clean oil… Not leaking from exhaust pipe, not leaking from anywhere. Thermostat has already been changed… Where is it going I looked at everything, no smell in car, no wet spots on carpet, outside of car does smell like antifreeze after running for awhile. Oil is cleaner than ever, no bubbles. I think i'll go have a pressure test done
- What causes the raw gas smell on the drivers side of a 1994 Ford explorer xlt 4x4? Raw gas smell coming out from drivers side near gas tank, saw a rusted spot on the top gas line at rear near tank. Also off topic but the gas gauge says empty when according to specs it still has 4 to 6 gallons left.
