Have a problem with my coolant fan on a 2002 Ford Focus 16v zetec?

Recently bought this car, only has 119k miles on it. I noticed the temperature was going 3/4 of the gauge when I was going through a drive through one day. I always thought the coolant fan would come on if you turned on the cars AC, but mine does not come on at all. What should I be checking first? I checked the coolant fan fuse and it is fine. Any advice would be appreciated!

Look in the owners manual and find the fan relay. Take it out and look where the pins for the relay are. There should be a number next to each pin. With a volt meter (if you don't have one, get or borrow one), and the car on, check the socket where pin #30 should go and see if it has 12 or more volts. It should have voltage, as long as the car is on. Now find where pin #87 is, and with a paper clip, stick one end in #30, and the other in #87. If the fan does not go on the fan is bad & needs to be replaced.
If it does go on, get the stored computer codes read to find out what's making the fan not go on when it should. Maybe a coolant temp sensor?

  • 2002 ford taurus coolant bubbling out of coolant tank cap? Coolant is bubbling out of the tank cap on my taurus. The coolant is a bit over the fill to line. The coolant is the normal green color. I don't think it having a bit of extra coolant in the tank is doing this. The cap itself maybe? I just bought this car and it didn't do this until today.
  • I have a 1999 ford ranger and i have coolant in one of my vacuum lines? Its the red line that runs to the egr vacuum mod on the passenger side of the motor. The part that the egr line goes to as well. I'm not sure why I have coolant running through a vacuum line. This causes coolant to run to the egr valve so I need to fix it

  • 2002 Ford Focus transmission problem? My focus started slipping 3rd gear I would be driving around 30mph and out of nowhere it would like slip or disengage out of gear. After that reverse went out on day out of nowhere it would engage if I kicked the gas pedal but would make the car jump really bad. I had read somewhere it might be a solenoid and to take it to autozone to scan the car Any help thanks
