Car dealership totaled my car?
Ok so it wasn't in a accident (I don't think) but I took my car to them to get a simple oil change. They told me I have a oil leak from a bad seal and needed to replace it and would keep it overnight. I agreed and didn't think twice about it because that was covered under warranty. Three days go by with their loaner car so I called to check the status and they told me they were replacing my whole engine because it was more damaged. Remind you this is a 2014 Ford Focus driven only for two years I bought new and had 30 thousand miles. It's now been a week since I've heard anything about my car. Last I checked was yesterday and they told me their still working on it. Like what should I do? Is this normal if a dealer seriously screws up your car?
They totally totaled it bruh
A new engine will take some time to arrive - you need to be a little more patient. The labour time is long too so even when it arrives they will have a lot to do.
Do you understand what "Totaled" means? And when was the last time (if ever) you had an oil change? Then again, it IS a FORD. Foreign Objects, Road Debris.
Depends…
if you did normal maintenance on the vehicle (like the manual says) with the correct fluids (like the manual says) then they caused the problem and can't charge you a single cent (if they do you can sue)
BUT if you didn't keep up with maintenance (which should be 3-5 oil changes and MAYBE a coolant swap and a new air filter) then its on you and expect a nice bill (since warranties don't cover lack of maintenance)
"Totaled" is an insurance term when a car is involved in a wreck, when the cost of the collision work exceeds the value of the car. Therefore, you are using the wrong term. Sounds like you don't know how or want to maintain a car. Rest easy skippy, it takes awhile to get the engine, and some time to install it, it's not plug and play.
So - whether they did something wrong, or found a serious original defect: they've ordered a factory crate motor to replace yours and it takes a while for it to arrive. As long as they're providing a loaner equal or better quality - for free - what more can they do?
1. I don't think you know what "totaled" means.
2. If your engine was run with the oil level too low and damaged occurred, which does tend to happen if the engine was run with too little oil in it, then it's not unreasonable that there was significant damage, and it's probably easier to just replace the engine than it would be to pay someone to tear down the engine and inspect and replace every damaged part. Chances are that you did the damage and didn't realize it. When the dealer did the oil change, they noticed the leak, found that the seal was bad, and a significant amount of oil had leaked out, since it's under warranty, and they know the engine had been run with less oil than it was supposed to have, they are going to replace the engine. Sounds like you're being treated very fairly here.
" Like what should I do? "
Let them put the new engine and go on with your life.
Your question says:
"Car dealership totaled my car?"
And then you talk about an oil change and an engine.
Just keep driving their loaner and don't go back.
You'll need to complain to the corporate headquarters.
- Pay Cash at car dealership, lower price? Recently sold my truck, and have a good amount of money to buy a car from a delearship, like ford, chevy, etc… I have the chance of paying for the car I want in cash. I know if I do this I would be able to haggle down the asking price, my question is how much? Anyone from experience done this before? Or would I just be better off making a huge down payment and paying the rest off? Comments or stories would help.
- Is a dealership the best place to get my car repaired? I have a 2014 Ford vehicle that I haven't even had for a year yet. Someone rear ended me and now I have to take it in to repair the damage. The other persons insurance is covering the cost. Since the car is not even a year old, I want to make sure that I get OEM parts installed. Is taking it to the Ford Dealership my best bet or will I be fine taking it to a respected independent? I just want to make sure I get it back the same way it was before.
- Used car dealership doesn't have title there, weird? As a girl, I'm trying to be super paranoid about not being taken average of. I'm looking at a used Ford focus, after.test drive etc, he assured me its a clean non salvage title. I asked if I could see the title to be sure if this. He said he.doesn't have it, some other boss or something does and I have to have a level of trust with him. Do people not normally check the title before buying?
- Can I take my used car from a used car dealership, to the name brand dealership? I have a 2002 ford explorer, and the fuel level gauge is not working. Do I take it to a regular mechanic, or can I go to a ford dealership? or is there a way to do it myself?
