Used car dealership doesn't have title there, weird?

As a girl, I'm trying to be super paranoid about not being taken average of. I'm looking at a used Ford focus, after.test drive etc, he assured me its a clean non salvage title. I asked if I could see the title to be sure if this. He said he.doesn't have it, some other boss or something does and I have to have a level of trust with him. Do people not normally check the title before buying?

If they will not show you the title walk away just remember all car dealers are borderline crooks and have a terrible reputation anyone selling a car MUST have the title, no show -no buy

You will only receive the title if you pay in full at the dealership. If you finance the car, the title will be sent to the institution that issued you the loan. Once paid the title will be mailed to you

You are certainly able to see the title before you sign anything. If the dealership has money borrowed against it, the bank may hold the original, but the dealership has to at least have a copy in their file so state inspectors can check on the paper work.

It does not sound too strange. They probably keep the titles locked up somewhere. Ask to see the CarFax instead. You can look up the CarFax yourself but it will cost you a few dollars. Www.carfax.com
