2009 Ford Focus power steering problem?
I have a 2009 ford focus and my power steering is leaking for the reservoir cap. I will fill it up to the max level and go for a drive and when i shut the car off a bunch of fluid comes out from the cap. The fluid is a dark brownish color so i don't know if i just have to do a flush or if the power steering pump is going bad
The FULL level is like two inches down from the rim, so it's not supposed to be filled to the very top. The reason it's leaking then is because the fluid will expand when it's heated as the car is driven. Also, power steering fluid is clear, automatic transmission fluid is dark red. Back in the day, they used auto tranny fluid for both, but not any more, so you need to flush the system until most of the red is gone. A little pink is okat…
You have air in the system. This can happen if you had the car jacked up and moved the tire back and forth without the engine running. With the engine running and the fluid full turn the wheel all the way from stop to stop a few times and keep an eye on the fluid level.
- 1995 Ford Taurus with a steering issue. When I turn the steering wheel to a certain spot left or right it will start moving back and forth? According to previous owner the rack and pinion was previously replaced. Steering wheel Is off a little to the right. Any ideas?
- Problem with Steering Wheel in Ford Aspire? This is a problem that just started happening last week, So pretty much when I go to turn the wheel, If I turn it to fast the wheel makes a weird snap sound then is unresponsive with the tires (it still turns the wheel but the tires don't respond) the only way to fix it so far, has been restarting the car, then it works like normal. I'm 16 btw, so I know nothing about cars and none of my family knows about cars, what do I do?
- Power Steering Problem? Ford CV? I have a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria. When I turn the wheel to the left, the first inch or so of turning is stiff, then it is fine. Its like I have to break through rough steering to get to the good stuff. Ha. Also, same thing for turning right. A few inches of rough turning and then it is easy to turn again. I have enough Power Steering fluid in the… Thing. It is half way between "Min" and "Max". Also, it is red, not too dirty looking. What could be the issue here?
- Power steering noise on Ford Focus, still works? Suddenly, my power steering has got noisy. It makes a noise when idling and increases when I press the gas pedal and also when I turn the wheel. The power steering fluid level looks OK, a little bit below the minimum level but I can see it when I take the cap off. Is this just going to be a quick belt replacement or something far more expensive? Is it safe to keep driving? And also, can The AA or RAC fix this at the roadside or is it a garage job?
