Why does my car momentarily lose power after shifting gears? Ford fiesta mk5 zetec 1.25 RPM Drop to 0 When Clutch pressed to change speed? - 1
First, the numbers on your tachometer (RPM indicator) are supposed to be read X100. That means that your "1.25" is actually 1250 RPM.
If your tachometer is dropping to ZERO when you press the clutch, that would mean that the engine has stopped running. If you can still HEAR the engine running, then your tachometer is not calibrated properly. Normal idle should be around 800 RPM.
0? That would mean the engine isn't running.
Get an OBD2 code check to see what the malfunction it.
The idle air control motor may be bad. You'll need a mechanic's $2000 scan tool that can read engine data to monitor the voltages if the IAC motor.
Who knows
It takes more power to run a taller gear, that why.

Also what's a good RPM my car should idle at while I'm in gear? Let's say I'm driving in 3rd gear. What's the ideal RPM to stay at before needing to shift.
