Is 130,000 miles ok for a 1.4 litre diesel car?

Hello I'm looking on buying a Ford Fiesta car second hand, its a 1.4 tdci engine and has covered 130.00 miles is this ok? How much longer is it going to last?

if anyone has time to have a look over the advert and could give me any advice or hints it would be greatly appreciated, the advert is:

i've been looking for a fiesta tdci for months but all are way out of my price range they are all 2000-3000 and this one is £1000, is it worth the money for an 02 plate car?

Its so risky job to buy a car like this.

Well diesels do NOT run for ever, yes they will indeed put up big miles but only if they are well serviced. A diesel operates at very high compression ratio's compared to a petrol car so if you want mega miles service it well and with good quality lubricants. One thing you need to be aware of though is that due to the nature of the beast it has some expensive components such as the injectors and high pressure fuel pump and someone buying at the one grand mark could get a nasty shock if any of those pack up. My last 3 cars have been diesels and i have had two others further back and to be honest i would be very wary of buying a twelve year old 1.4 with 130k and would advise you put the money into its petrol counterpart.

Take it on a long test drive. If it has been looked after it should go to 200,000 miles with ease.

Impossible to tell without inspecting the car. Either toss a coin for your answer or get someone who knows what they're doing to check it out for you, but what I will say is that after 130k miles and 12 years a Ford Fiesta will be pretty well worn.
Do you really NEED a Diesel? A standard 1.3 Fiesta will do decent MPG and be a lot less expensive to run.

Depends on how well the car has been kept-up!

Not really. A diesel is not even broken in till about 150k miles. But the great thing is diesels run forever and get amazing mileage when compared the gas counterparts. What i means is 2 cars same power power same torgue, one is a diesel one is gas. The diesel gets way better mileage. I have a buddy of mine who has over 400k miles on his old Volvo diesel, and the thing just keeps chugging along with minimal maintenance.

  • Why was the 3.8 litre v6 1989 Essex engine so bad? I have an 89 ford thunderbird with the above engine in it. It only gets 140 hp and 215 ft pounds of torque? Like what the heck. Is the fuel computer just calibrated to a lean fuel air ratio? Is the stroke really short? Is it just highly ineficient? I would greatly apreciated if someone could shed some light on this. 3.8 litres is a lot of engine, am I mistaken in assuming that it should be better than it is?
  • Is a 130 amp alternator good for a 1200w system? I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE and I recently looked up stock alternators to see how many amps my alternator was putting out. Everywhere I look i see 130 amps and I wanted to know if that is good (higher end, lower end, or average). And if you could, give me an example of how many amps are bad, and how many amps would be really good for a 1200w system.

  • If a Ford is burning a litre of oil a week is that much? This guy I know had an old Ford and he had to put 1 litre in it every week as that is what it burnt. I consider that a car with a bad oil burning problem. Do you think the same?
