130 amp alt good for 1200w system?
I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE and I recently looked up stock alternators to see how many amps my alternator was putting out. Everywhere I look i see 130 amps and I wanted to know if that is good (higher end, lower end, or average). And if you could, give me an example of how many amps are bad, and how many amps would be really good for a 1200w system
I would upgrade the alternator when you can. 90% of your alternators power is going to be feeding your stereo through that big capacitor called your cars battery. A car actually runs at 13.6 volts if all the electrical system is healthy, a 1200 watt output amp is drawing anywhere from 1500 to 2300 watts depending on it's efficiency. Actually if it is an old class A, no that alternator would not be sufficient, you would be using the battery as a capacitor to run it if you had it at full volume long time.

- Is this a good Sub and Amp combo? : http://www.ebay.com/...1287907067 I want to put subs in my ford focus, I want to make sure that the amp is good enough for the subs as I'm clueless when it comes to matching these things. Also is it ok to put this particular amp behind the panel in the trunk or will it get too hot? Also I want to know if its possible to wire it with connectors or something to where I can easily disconnect the sub for extra trunk space when needed?
- What kind of amp wiring kit do i need? I have the mtx terminator subs and amp. I have 2 12in subs in a box and a 400w amp, they will be in an 03 ford explorer if that matters and i can't currently get specifics on the system because my trucks in the shop, so what amp wiring kit do i need? I already have an aftermarket radio unit in as well
- Do I need an aftermarket head unit (car stereo) for my amp and subs for my 2008 Ford Escape? Since it's a newer suv would an aftermarket head unit be worth it? I already got an aux cord plug in.
