Best car for under $10,000?

I'm looking for a car under 10 grand give or take 1k. I would like it to acceleration quickly (preferable under 7 seconds 0-60). Here is a list of examples, but I want some more ideas. Keep in mind not all of these are in my budget, and I also want at least 10mpg and a car that isn't a fortune to repair. My job is currently minimum wage at 8.50 an hour, but I have to 10k in cash for the car.

Buy a used 2005 Toyota Prius as it's one of the best made of the Prius and it will give you many miles before repairs need to be made if you can find one with less than 80,000 miles on it. The MPG will be around 35 to 40 MPG depending on whether you drive it in hilly terrain or in the flatter areas or sit in traffic for long periods.

Stay away from the Dodge, the Cadillac, the Mini, and the Fiesta. The Mustang V8 will kill you in insurance cost. The Audis are not very reliable but OK. The Volkswagen is just OK. The Honda Civic would be an excellent choice as would something from Toyota.

However, ANY used car can have problems -- expensive hidden problems that can only be discovered by a professional mechanic's inspection BEFORE you buy.
