Buy a crate motor from Ford dealer. Cost a little more but are more complete and better warranty.

Craigslist

That will depend on your point of view. Ford dealer can arrange exchange and even fit. These will carry full warranty etc. However not cheap. So go on basis you get what you pay for or if working to a budget? Check out local engine reconditioners.

Jasper.

Rebuilt would be a better term. Go to your local junkyard and look for the same engine you need in a vehicle that looks like it was in an accident, check it thoroughly. Low mileage if you can find one. Get the warranty. Your looking at about $350--400 range. Not including labor.

I would go to a trusted local repair shop (not dealer) and ask their advice and what they would charge. I'm sure you know this will cost you several thousand or more dollars. However if you love your truck like I do mine then there's no getting a new truck, I know the felling and blue book value of the truck means nothing to you. I have recently checked doing that to mine and I found out that I can't move down to a smaller engine (V-6 to save on gas) or up to a larger engine do to the trucks computer and and other modern issues that will not allow the change in engine size from the factory engine, like the old days. Anyway, good luck.

There's 2 more questions you need to ask yourself - (1) how about the transmission? It will need to be rebuilt as well (2) are you capable of doing the engine/trans exchange or not? If not, then you want a shop that will do the installation also

  • Remanufactured Ford Long Block Engine. When should I get first oil change? Recently had a Ford remanufactured 2.5L 4cyl long block engine replaced in my car. Other than obviously not beating on the engine, I'm curious as to when to get the first oil change. I've came across a few different answers ranging from 1k miles to 2.5k. I'm creeping up to 1k mile on the engine and would be grateful for insights.
  • Where's the best online site to buy a cheap, rebuilt (or low mileage) engine? I'm not looking for a hot rod crate engine, I just need a reputable online source to replace my engine that is no longer usable. 91 ford ranger xlt 2.3L
  • Can I transfer my car payments and car to a 17year old from a buy here pay here place? I have a good question… I got a 98 jeep grand Cherokee limited from ridenowautosales.com I'm still currently making payments. A family friend told me he d sell me his 98 Ford v8 supercharged mustang for 500$ because he needs it gone. Back to the question, my friend is 17 and desperately needs a car would I be able to transfer the jeep and payments into his name? I love the jeep and all but not the 10mpg any help would be awesome!
  • Is a dealership the best place to get my car repaired? I have a 2014 Ford vehicle that I haven't even had for a year yet. Someone rear ended me and now I have to take it in to repair the damage. The other persons insurance is covering the cost. Since the car is not even a year old, I want to make sure that I get OEM parts installed. Is taking it to the Ford Dealership my best bet or will I be fine taking it to a respected independent? I just want to make sure I get it back the same way it was before.
