What is the rope method when installing a windshield on a 79 Ford f150?
I'm trying to do the job myself. According to the forums I've read it's pretty simple. But Most of them say they used a small rope to put it back in place. Where does it exactly go? And do you start pulling it off from the inside of the cab or outside?
I have done many. For a first timer, you will need help. Just someone to apply MILD pressure on the outside. Here is a good video of a rear glass, front is done the same way:
If yours has chrome trim, that is installed before you install the glass.
Think of the rubber sal like a capital H. Fit it round the glass. Fit the rope round the outside groove of the H. Hold it against the frame. Pull the rope inside to flip the edge of the seal over the metal. It's pretty easy. Then go round with silicone seal.
If the rubber seal around the windshield has a "U" shaped edge you wrap the rope around the complete window in that you channel and over lap it about 6". Then you place the windshiel on the body opening and while another person lightly holds it in place you get on the inside and carefully pull the rope to make the U channel inner lip flip over the opening lip. If the windshield is held down with ytoo much pressure you may rip the rubber U channel and then you need a new one. Silicon spraying the rubber helps make the rubber flip over the body opening lip a lot easier.
- Installing Aftermarket Head Unit in 2003 Ford Taurus SES? I can't figure out the wiring situation. I got the harness that runs all the way back to the trunk; however, it only has 9 wires. Two for each of the four speakers (8) and one to control an amp if applicable. However, while the wires from the head unit have two power wires, the harness has none. The head unit I got is a DEH-X6700BS. Please help, how do I power this head unit when the wiring harness has no wires for power, only speaker wires?!
- Installing a head unit in Ford Taurus? So I know you have to buy the kit to put your own head unit in the Taurus. My question is since I have the one with the 6 disc cd changer do I have to buy a more expensive kit even tho I'm not gna use the cd changer anymore? Also going to wire the car up for amp and sub to be later installed since the head unit will be out already.
