How to tell if my transmission is going out?
I drive a 1990 ford f150 5.8l with an automatic transmission. The transmission started making a noise when driving home today. Could it be the torque converter?
Simple. If your car isn't pulling right.
If you step on the gas and the car does not or hardly moves then your transmission is faulty. The good news is a junk yard tranny for an older model like that is less than $ 600 installed.
Take it to a transmission repair shop and let them check it out for you. Do not just start throwing parts and money at it.
- Will my abs light come on if my brake pump is going out? My 1995 ford ranger's abs light is off once I start my truck and the turns on after I roll about 20ft. And in the time before that 20ft when the light is off, if I press the brake too hard the brakes lock up. Once the light comes on braking for is basically normal
- Help truck isn't going into gear and when I let the clutch out it does? I have a 2001 standard Ford ranger. I barely had a new clutch put in last year. But anyway I was going down highway in 5th gear and as I was going to put it in neutral it made a loud popping noise and then died. So I went to the side of the road and tried starting it, nothing. It starts up fine but the minute I let off the clutch it dies and when I try to shift it into 1 3 or 5 it feels like some thing is blocking it it'll act like it goes into 2 an 3 but it doesn't engage.
- Is there a way to tell if mechanical switched engine or transmission? Dropped car off shady car repair shop. Been few days and they added a few more for what seems to be simple fixes. I get maybe ordered parts. But my mind is racing that they are swapping part since low miles car. Can I tell when I get the car back from like vin number? Would it match engine serial number or something? Just worried they keep stalling and shady. Regret even going there. It's an 05 ford.
