Ford F150 won't start after replacing starter? - 1

Won't crank over? Or cranks over but won't start? You probably didn't hook the wires up correctly.

If you have connected the wires correctly and you are 100% sure the new starter is good, you can get a new starter that is bad, then you have another problem. Possibly the ignition switch is bad or the main fuse is blown.

There was once a TSB about the solenoid pigtail wire being faulty and whenever you get a new starter for Fords with the 4.2 V6, 4.6 V8, 5.4 V8, or 6.8 V10 engines, they come with a new pigtail wire that you have to cut the old one out and meld the new one in its place to fix it.

So you have a "Won't Crank issue", not a "won't start issue. HUGE HUGE difference! This is why it is so important to take a piece of masking tape and label each & every wire that goes to the starter:
Top post, bottom post, left post, small post, right post, large post, whatever it takes to jog your memory. You need a schematic. Google: Starter wiring F 150.
Start over. You will get it.

  • Ford Mustang 2004 car won't start after battery terminal changed? Had my battery in my 2004 ford Mustang changed. The terminal broke and was a little loose, but the car still ran. Today we changed the terminal to the battery and now the car won't start. Every thing was fine earlier with the loose terminal, but when the terminal was changed, the car decides not to start.

  • 2002 Ford Focus won't start after driving on the highway for 15 minutes? I have a 2002 Ford Focus LX with about 130,000 miles on it. If I drive it on the highway for about 15 minutes, when I finally turn the car off, it won't start back up unless I get a jump or if I let it sit for about 2 hours. I've gotten a new alternator a new battery and new battery terminals (old ones were corroded). Can someone please tell me what's wrong with my car, I'm tired of wasting money on things that don't need to be fixed.
  • How to fix surging bogging problem 2005 ford f350 v10 after replacing tps? So I had a code come up to replace tps so I did. now truck will bog and sometimes dies when taking off and coming to a stop. have moved the sensor up and down. Some positions makes the gas pedal not work. With it in the correct spot truck idles around 500 rpms. I don't get what the problem is. Doesn't make any sense. could it be that it's not a motorcraft part? are these v10 picky with aftermarket parts? any suggestions thanks
