Where is the purge valve on 98 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer v6 engine?

I have code P0455 and was told its the purge valve. I was quoted $330 to fix it.Im just going to fix it myself.so where is this purge valve? I think my engine is 4.0? I just need to replace this purge valve… Also, is vent control valve the same as a purge valve. Just a different name? I'm clueless, please help me.

The purge valve will be installed between the carbon canister and intake manifold vacuum fitting.Locate the carbon canister then follow the vacuum line from there towards the intake and you'll see the purge valve. It has a wiring harness attached to it.It should make a clicking sound when you turn the key on, so have an assistant turn the key on while you look and listen for this clicking sound. That will also help you find it. The vent control valve is a different part than the purge valve. The vent control valve is mounted on the top side of the gas tank. Check it for leaks or clogs. Check the gas cap gasket and make sure the vents on the outside edge of gas cap are free from clogs and debris. Check the long vacuum line attached to the vent valve from the valve all the way up to the engine bay where its attached to the carbon canister. Check it for clogs and vacuum leaks. Check the canister for cracks. Check the filter inside of canister to make sure its not soaked with fuel.

P0455 is fro a gross leak in the emission system. I doubt that's because of the purge valve. It's more likely a bad gas cap, a bad carbon canister vent valve, or a rust hole in the fuel filler neck. To find it you need a smoke machine to find the leak or know how to use vise grips to seal the system while pulling a vacuum on it ti determine where the leak is.
Go to the dealer before you end up wasting money guessing or listening to a bozo mechanic.
