Is 215,000 miles too much? Opinions on the Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition are appreciated as well?

I'm looking at buying a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition and it's in good shape. I haven't test drove it yet. The only down side is the mileage. If it runs good is it ok to buy? And does anyone know anything about the car?

How do you know it's in a "good shape?" Who inspected the vehicle? Have a qualified mechanic put the car on a lift and looked under side?

A car may run fine but it can hide lots of defects.

Generally speaking, cars/trucks with that many miles are not great purchase targets. If you insist on buying it, please consider having it inspected professionally by a mechanic of your choice.

Once the car is on a lift and a mechanic looks at it, it can tell a whole different story than casually driving it.

Its worn out.

215,000 miles on ANY Ford (with the exception of a Super Duty with a Powerstroke Diesel) is entirely too many, ESPECIALLY one from the early 2000's. I would not even consider buying this vehicle, regardless of the price.

Everything on that car is tired. Anything could go at any time.
It's one thing to hang onto an old high mileage car if nothing goes wrong,
It's quite another to buy yourself a heap of potential trouble.
