What is wrong with the police?

So friday my boyfriend was driving my car home from work, well the roads were icy so he was driving around 30-35mph. This lady who was driving a ford explorer with temp tags loses control of her suv, and hits my car. They both pull to the side and she tells him she doesn't have insurance… Well she hit the passenger door bad and now it won't open. She also broke my passenger mirror… Anyways my boyfriend called St. Louis county police, they came and took a report and gave her just one ticket for not having insurance and then let her drive away.really? She just caused at least 5,000 dollars worth of damage aalready, now she can keep driving to cause damage to more peoples car and then not pay.really? This is one of the many reasons why i can't stand the police. What should i do?

First, calm down. I assume that your Boyfriend has insurance since he was not ticketed? His insurance should cover the damage to your car and his company will then go after the woman for reimbursement.

If your Boyfriend doesn't have insurance, why were you letting him drive? Anyway, if he doesn't have insurance, then your insurance will still pay for the repairs to your car and your insurance will then likely go after your Boyfriend for not having insurance and your boyfriend will have to sue the woman to get reimbursed from her.

Yes, she can keep driving, but I would imagine that she's going to have problems reselling that explorer with the existing damage and the trade in value just went down the tubes as well. That would probably put her upside down for several years in the future, not to mention the fiscal costs of a judgement against her for the reimbursement of repairs.

Police can't stop someone from driving. Only a judge or the DMV can do that.

All the police can do is give them a ticket, which he did. Your insurance company, or you, can sue her for the damage.

If she didn't have insurance, she'll be suspended for 90 days, if it's first citation for no insurance. They could of impounded her car but they probably cut some slack with strict warning. But like I said, her license will be suspended for 90 days or more. If she doesn't pay, then you could always take it to court

You contact your insurance immediately. You give them all the details. They will sort your car and take steps to get the money back from the other party.
In my location they seize uninsured cars there and then at the roadside
Perhaps you should campaign gor that in your jurisdiction.

Your Boyfriend would have had to have been behind her or beside her in order to get hit!

If he was behind her… He was following to close, and your insurance may not pay…
