How does gear shifting work on a 2002 Ford Explorer?

I'm buying one soon and I noticed that the gear handle is by the steering wheel instead of down by the glove compartment. The transmission is automatic, but I've never driven a car with the gear by the steering wheel. Do I pull it down to drive or to go in reverse? Can someone please explain how the shifting works? Sorry if it sounds dumb but I'm not used to it.

All the way up is park. The indicator will tell you.

It's essentially exactly the same. Depress the brake peddle, pull the column gear shifter slightly toward you, and drop it in your desired gear. Repeat when necessary.

I just can't…

Its the same thing just on the column
