Gas smell after driving for a while?
Occasionally I smell gasoline vapors in my car but only after I've been driving for a while in heavy traffic and when I have half a tank of gas or less. I drive a 1993 Ford Explorer.
What's causing the smell?
Most likely a leaky gas line, the gas tank is commonly right in front of the rear axle, with hoses that carry the fuel under the two front seats, through the firewall, and the the engine. If this hose, or the connections to the tank leaked in such a way that it didn't all drip out onto the ground, but instead some stayed on the frame under the car, it could cause some gas smell in the cabin.

Could be a leak somewhere or a problem with the charcoal canister.
Could be the fuel pump seal or the purge valve in the evap system.

Checked hoses, petrol cap etc could not see any leaks. Tightened the petrol cap went for a drive and could not smell anything after I came home. Why is this happening? Its been like this for awhile now but when i floor the gas pedal (from a stop or while moving) there's a bad smell coming from the exhaust, I can't smell anything from inside the car but my friends tell me when they're behind me. They say it smells like burning, however I check the oil regularly and it still has 50% life. Btw I only do this for short distance never holding it. The dealership told me just not to floor it and it won't do it. Wasn't much help.

After driving at highway speeds (55 - 60 mph) for about 30 minutes and then stopping and turning off the engine there's a strong smell of gas inside the car. This doesn't happen for short runs around town at lower speeds. I've looked under the car and can't spot any signs of leakage. Anyone have any ideas what's going on?
