Does my 99 Ford Explorer have a transmission drain plug?

I have a 99 Ford Explorer XLT. It's a 6 cylinder automatic and AWD and was just wondering if the tranny has a drain plug.

Has to be. Otherwise. How would you change the tranny fluid… It's probably covered by muck and dirt…

Many Japanese cars have them, but to keep costs down, the big 3 don't put drain plugs on. You loosen the bolts on the pan, one side a little, the other side about half way and pry the pan off. It will rest on the bolts and start draining. It is a messy job. Almost better to have a tranny shop do it.

Your Explorer does not have a drain plug in the transmission pan. You need to undo the pan bolts and remove the pan carefully getting one corner loose and gradually drain out the fluid into a large catch container of some kind in the most controlled fashion you can to avoid a mess. You can purchase a drain plug kit at the auto parts store, but it will require you to drill a hole into the pan to install it.

No the 2002 and up do though. Will need to take the pan off and a messy job on those models
