Did my mechanic screw up my car?
I recently had a transmission replaced in my Ford Explorer ( for a total of $3500 including warranty). Soon afterwards I noticed that my car was grinding and did not want to go in reverse. I was told that the reman transmission which was installed in the vehicle had a metal contamination and a clutch height stack problem which caused the clutch plates to fuse together. The mechanic replaced the transmission at no cost due to the warranty, however I was told that I now need an entirely new front brake system, shocks and a new drive shaft. Could the bad reman have caused these massive issues? ( I was quoted with $8000 to repair all of the stuff wrong with my car)?
Who quoted the new repairs? If the same guy who replaced the tranny you are being scammed.
And brakes and shocks (struts) have nothing to do with the transmission and should cost $1000 total to repair at a reputable shop.
Drive shaft issues would come from the bad tranny.
Get and INDEPENDENT estimate from a reputable shop.
If it was remanufactured, all the mechanic did was install it and add some fluid. He didn't take it apart.
No, I don't believe so.
Brakes, shocks and a driveshaft don't cost $8,000. Keep away from whoever told you that. You probably got a junk used transmission instead of a good reman.
- Type of TORX screw used with a Mercury Cougar '99 shifter? A seemingly simple issue with a bit of a tricky solution. I'm looking for the type of TORX screws used with for the shifter gaitor of a 1999 Ford/Mercury Cougar. I'm looking at the assembly diagram, but it doesn't shed any light sadly
- If i put bigger rims on my car will that somehow screw up something with the car? I have a 2002 Ford Explore XLT V6 engine. It currently has the original 15' rims but i wanted to upgrade them to a 24' chrome. I been told that it will screw up the bar that connects them the wheel and after a few months the top of the wheels will move inward and that would screw everything up. Is it true? I know that the speedometer would get messed and i would have to fix that so far.
- Slow mechanic, over a week just to fix the windows switch and wipers on my car? Well we gave him free curry in exchange to fix my car for free, but it's been a one week now, the windows don't go up and down, and wipers don't work, it's a ford focus 2004 3door 1.6, does it really take that long to do those two things? I dunno am not a mechanic? My car is still not ready after one week
- How much in mechanic costs am I looking at? I have a 2004 Ford F-150 pick up, and it needs the rear leaf springs replaced, about how much on average does it cost to do that? Also if my right blinker isn't working, like the one on the mirror and inside blinks but the one on the back doesn't, it just needs a bulb replaced correct?
