2004 Ford Explorer V6 RPM Limits?

In Park the RPMs max at 3200. In gear there's no limitations and car runs great. No limit of power.
Diagnostic test states low fuel pressure. Have changed the Fuel Pump and Filter. Other two things recommended is the Fuel Pressure Regulator or Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor
Any suggestions which to change first to save money?

If the vehicle runs fine then why replace anything?

Why in the world do you need more than 3,000 RPMs in park?

It's entirely possible that the PCM has a rev limiter programmed into it specifically to limit RPM at idle/while in park. There may be absolutely nothing wrong with the engine if it runs fine while in-gear and can exceed that 3200rpm when necessary while driving. I wouldn't do anything to the engine until you rule out that it just has a limiter built-in and that the limiter is doing exactly what it should be doing. Any Ford dealership service department (if you can't find the info anywhere else online) should be able to tell you over the phone if your particular engine has a rev limiter that limits idle RPM by design.

You are pi$$ing money away changing parts for no reason. The ECU is programmed to do that.

Car is 14 years old and is likely not broken. Do not fix it. What do you gain when you can rev it to redline at idle?

I actually don't see any problem unless the check engine light is on.
Try some injector cleaner (the injectors might not be seating all the way).
Finding a supplier for the fuel pressure regulator can be a trick! One of the alternate names is "fuel pressure sensor" for some Ford Products. This is not an expensive part and is easy to replace (try YouTube to see how), provided you don't buy it from a Ford dealer. I would have replaced it second (before doing the fuel pump).

"In Park the RPMs max at 3200."

That's normal, when the transmission is not in gear the ECU limits the engine's max RPM. It's there to protect the engine.

"Any suggestions which to change first to save money?"

There's nothing wrong, it's working as intended.

You'd save a bunch of money if you just quit messing with something that isn't broken Most vehicles have a rev limiter built into the PCM that cuts power when revving the motor in neutral. It's to keep idiots from ruining their motors.

Change the mechanic.
There's no need for the engine to be above idle in Park.
Is this troll week?

  • What would cause my 2004 Ford E350 5.4L 8cyl to have 2,000 rpm at idle and in neutral? The van has 113,000 miles. Plugs changed at 100,000 miles. When started the rpms are at 2,000. Occasionally they will drop 100-200 rpm for 1-2 seconds then right back to 2,000 rpm. While driving there's no problem as long as the van is in drive. Once in a great while after driving around for a while it will be normal rpm when I put it in park. But usually works its way back to 2,000 rpm. Should I try to clean the throttle body or change the tps sensor? Any help will be much appreciated.
  • Should their be federal limits on the money police can get from traffic tickets? In my small city- it seems like they are enriching themselves off minor traffic tickets. I've paid $600 so far this year alone and I'm not a purposefully reckless driver. I wonder if that's how they can afford their higher salaries (than the median where I live) and 2015 ford police cruisers (whereas most people here drive old cars).
  • What RPM should my car idle while driving and what RPM should I shift? I have a 2003 Ford Mustang V6. 5 speed manual transmission. This is not the first manual car I've owned, but I'm curious. I never really look but I've read in some places that in order to save gas you should shift at 2 RPM before I used to shift at around 3-3.5 RPM. Also what's a good RPM my car should idle at while I'm in gear? Let's say I'm driving in 3rd gear. What's the ideal RPM to stay at before needing to shift.
  • What RPM are you supposed to shift at in a 2001 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L 5 speed? I've been shifting at 3k, but here lately it has been really hard to shift the gear into place using the stick, so I started shifting at 2k and its been much smoother but I get off a whole heck of a lot slower. Which RPM is best suited for the type of vehicle I'm driving?
