I can't get a right reading on ATF dipstick?

I did a pan drop and changed internal filter and gasket on my 2005 Ford E350 V8 super duty box truck. Now it doesn't leak fluid anymore through the gasket so I'm happy about that. I pulled out 8 quarts and put in 8 quarts of Ford Motorcraft Mercon LV atf. Even though the truck calls for SP Ford has discontinued SP and has stated that it is safe to use and mix LV fluid in their 5sp torque shift transmission. I drove the truck home and rechecked fluid, and every time I get a different reading sometimes it's low, sometimes it seems to be enough. If I check when the car has been sitting for a while it reads full if I turn it on, run through the gears and warm it up it reads low and lower etc. What is going on? The gears go through fine, when I drove it there was no slippage. I read on a forum where someone stated that "the LV fluid needs to be really hot to get a right reading on the dipstick that's why it is not really preferred."

I'm not about to ruin my transmission so I want to be sure on what are my next options. Also sometimes even before I did all this my transmission would clunk/screak when I would switch from P to D P to R R to P D to R etc. This happens once in a while, usually while it's been sitting for a while.

Normal or not good?

Added (1). I drive manual so I don't have much experience with automatic transmissions.

You check all transmission fluid HOT with the engine running in park AFTER running through the gears you always get a full reading on a engine that isn't running, and you always get a low reading on cold fluid

  • Why is my car's fuel reading so incorrect? 2016 Ford Focus, fuel efficient readings after a couple weeks go all the way to 99.9 MPG no matter how I drive, and on the estimated fuel left, it's used up at a rate of almost 5 miles to 1 actual mile, Yesterday I left the house to go grocery shopping and it had "100 Miles to Empty" and I drove a 5.4 mile trip twice, and when I got back, "60.6 miles to empty". It's the SE Sport model. Any help is greatly appreciated

  • ATF type for 2008 ford focus? Hi, I need to know what kind of ATF uses a 2008 ford focus. I don't have the owners manual because i bought the car in used condition. The other question is how many quarts of atf do I have to buy to change it? In the past I've been done this work with my old car so I know how to do it.
