How many miles will a 1989 Ford-350 last?

I'm thinking about buying an 89 F350. It's in good shape and runs great but it has 150,000 miles on it. I wanna know if it's gonna last another hundred or if I would be wasting my money. I've heard diesels last 250,000 and upward if you take care of them, I want someone's opinion who knows what their talking about. No one I know knows anything about trucks.

Like any other vehicle it will last til something breaks. Have you checked carfax etc to make sure it was taken care of as you say? Are they asking a fair price? You should also look at some older Consumer Reports car issues (April) for ratings of that vehicle as used---it gives repair frequency for expensive items like engine and AC and suspension.

Back in the day the International diesel was considered a 400,000 mile engine. One of the tow companies that I used had several trucks with the power strokes in them and replaced them at 350,000 as a normal service on their trucks… But that's only the engine… Seat cushions breakdown, as do all plastic, rubber components. Has it been well cared for and from the desert southwest. (metals good, everything else dryrot) or Midwest (metals rusted, plastic not rotten) . I had a 1989 F250 PowerStroke, great truck in it's day, the interior trim started was coming apart and power windows and seat were issues after the first few years… Who knows how many more miles in one that's apparently just been sitting…

The N/A 7.3L is a reliable engine, not particularly powerful by today's standards, but reliable. I know a guy who has a 1991 that he's had since new that he daily drives and tows a travel trailer with, he hasn't had any trouble with the engine, though the A/C compressor did go out, but when you're talking about 25+ year old vehicles, chances are there's going to a be few problems that crop up.
