You CAN.
I've built engines for cars, trucks and boats. The main differences are the camshaft and the use of brass core plugs in the block. The most important thing about camshafts is the lobe separation angle. This determines the degrees in crankshaft rotation that the intake and exhaust valves on the same cylinder are open at the same time. This is what overlap is. The more overlap… The greater chance of ingesting water into your engine. The industry tries to keep LSA at 112 degrees minimum. The added benefit of a wide LSA is a broad power band. That means that torque maxes out at low rpms and stays relatively constant all the way up to ~4500 rpm or more.
With that said. A direct swap of 2.3 out of a car in to your boat will be fine. I would swap the freeze plugs to brass and not worry about the cam. Its been done many many many times.
- What's a good year to buy a used 4cyl Ford Ranger for around or less than $2000? I'm in the market for a used ford ranger. I'm looking for the extended cab with a 4cyc engine. I've got less than $2000 to spend, my question is what's a good year to look for with that engine, and maybe some bad years to avoid? Btw, I live in los angeles, CA. So I'm not worried about rust, or it being to old, if it was maintained well is the main thing. I know at that price range I can't expect much.
- Should I replace my 99 Ford Ranger 3.0 auto with a 302 or keep stock? My 99 Ranger is starting to die at the engine and transmission. I'm planning to keep the truck because it's sentimental but should I replace the 3.0 with a 302 or should I either rebuild the 3.0 or replace with another 3.0?
- Code p0171 for 1996 ford ranger 2.3L xl 4cyl Was running rough in idle i would give gas and it would get stuck in higher rpm check engine light came after awhile and it started running fine all on its own hooked up computer reader and got code p0171 system to lean bank 1 can't find a vacuum leak anywhere could it be the IAC or EGR valve?
- Can I put a boat motor in my truck? So I have a 1992 ford ranger 2.3 and the stock motor blew up in it and I bought a 89 2.3 cobra race motor that came out of a boat and my 92 is fuel injected and the 89 is carbureted, I just wanted some input on how things will turn out if it's possible, what problems I may experience, and is it common to do this? Or is it gonna be a huge hassle
