Can I put a boat motor in my truck?

So I have a 1992 ford ranger 2.3 and the stock motor blew up in it and I bought a 89 2.3 cobra race motor that came out of a boat and my 92 is fuel injected and the 89 is carbureted, I just wanted some input on how things will turn out if it's possible, what problems I may experience, and is it common to do this? Or is it gonna be a huge hassle

No, a marine engine has extra water jackets and the hot water exits into the exhaust. It is not recycled through a radiator. You would need a continual supply of water, like a lake, to replace the water going out the exhaust.

Don't marine engines turn backwards to normal engines as well, regardless some duck tape, an endless supply of water and some redneck ingenuity and I believe you could do it, but it would be a hassle lol

There will be all kinds of things that you will need from your old engine, but the block should work.

The marine motor could have had a SAE bell housing rather than one of the Ford ones. If your truck is a auto trans it most likely has a electrically engaged 4th/OD gear in addition to the locking torque converter so you would have to research if there's an easy way to control that stuff without a full EFI computer. I think that trans was called the A4LD.

Yes you can put a Ford motor in a ford truck. Some wiring harnesses won't be needed and you will need to change the linkage for your carburetor maybe the oil pan I don't know about the exhaust manifold. You will just have to play it by ear but it can be done with some adjustments. Check online if your transmission with fit on that motor.

Yes if your going to drive your truck up and down rivers and lakes otherwise forget it!

Yes with enough effort but whether or not it's worth it - probably not. Head & cam probably different because a boat motor needs to be able to run at full throttle for long periods so the motor is detuned for boat use.
