Buying Nonrunning 1964 ford?

I have been wanting to buy a 1965 Ford Thunderbird, but I'm on a budget of $2000 for it. I found one that looks ok on the out and inside, but the owner says that a man that was renting from them and got mad and cut the spark plug wires. I think this seems pretty fishy to me… Hbu?

For a 50 year old car don't expect much.
plan an investing $10,000 to $ 30,000 to get it running good

I'm no mechanic but spark plug wires would seem to be a fairly simple thing to replace. Are you expecting this car to be running? Take it to a mechanic before buying it.

When you buy a non-running car, always expect the worst. Especially one that is that old. The plug wires might be cut, but that doesn't mean the car could easily have other mechanical issues like transmission or compression issues. Expect to put quite a bit of money into this car. The best advice would be to bring along someone who knows cars and have them bring a set of plug wires with them. It won't take long to install, and then see if you can get the car running. Just getting it started and running around the block will answer many questions.

Take your $2000, put it in a savings account. Once you have $5000-$10000 more saved up, you will have enough to make a $2000 car roadworthy. Expect to replace the brakes, tires, air, fuel, oil filters, distributor, plus a full tune up and service, if the engine isn't toast…

  • What to look for when buying a used 2004 Ford Mustang? I'm going to look at a 2004 Ford Mustang this week. It has 101,000 miles on it. If I but it it will be my first car, so I want to make sure that it is in great shape and won't break down in me. Check the link and tell me if it is a good deal. What do I look for when inspecting it? Thanks! http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/4454973116.html

  • Should I even be thinking about buying a 2005 Ford F-150 with 261,000 miles? I have been in desperate need of a vehicle since my truck was stolen earlier last month and have come across, what seems to be a good deal. It is a 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat 4WD that drives great and doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it. But, it does have 261,000 miles on it. The dealer wants $8,980. What do you guys think? Again, I did test drive it and it seemed like a great feeling and sounding truck.
