Can I put a 3.8l windstar engine into a 99 ford ranger with 3.0 engine will it work or can't do it at all?

People do it all the time, but i don't know your abilities…
Just check any of the many Ranger forums… Like search, 99 ranger 3.8… Read how it's done and see if that's something you want to try. Although I've done several engine swaps (like 460 into 68 Mustang)… This one would be easier to sell both the Ranger and Windstar, and buy a Ranger with a 4.0… You'll no doubt save money…

The Windstar engine will prove problematic, as it's meant for applications with a transversely mounted engine (front wheel drive) and you Ranger is primarily rear wheel drive. You'd have better luck with a 3.8L/3.9L/4.2L out of a Mustang/F-150/Econoline. Also you're going to need some kind of adapter if you have an automatic transmission, and some custom ECU work if you have an electronically controlled automatic. A 4.0L swap is more feasible.
