I never received the title of my car?

I'm trying to trade in my current vehicle for a new ford fusion but alas NO TITLE. I only have the registration for the tags and plates, which are in my name.

I've had multiple other dealers run the VIN for this vehicle through Carfax and didn't mention any active lien or anything like that.

What I'm scared of is there might be a lien on the title of the car I want to trade in.

I've already put the car I want on layaway and paid the necessary fees. I don't want to back out of this deal.

The old car was given to me as default for a deal gone sour with a dealer about 2 years ago who spot delivered me a car that they couldn't get me financed for. When I had to return the vehicle, they had already demolished my old car. Thus they gave me the car I'm trying to trade in now.

Problem is the car dealer basically said i could have it for $1500. I said fine whatever i was exhausted and had a fulltime job to drive too. Which I made only two payments on, then magically they stopped. The payments were automatic.

I tried to call the dealer, no answer. They never called me when the payments stopped (a little over 9 months ago now) and my phone number has remained the same. No calls. No emails. No repossession notice. No anything.

So I think the dealer who took $3500 from me let me go.

I no longer have contact with that dealership and it has all but dropped of the face of the earth, if there's a lien on the title, how can I get it removed?

You need to go to the dmv - or whatever your State has - and ask them what steps you need to take

What state are you in? Policy may vary by state. What is the current value of the car?
So is the title in your name with a lien on it? Did you get a memorandum title? Again varies by state.
If car title is in your name, you may be able to file a form with the DMV saying you paid off the lien and that you can't contact the lien holder to give you the title.
They will try to contact the lien holder and if they can't find them, as a lien holder like a dealer is supposed to keep information current, then the DMV may release the lien, or in some states they will release the lien, but you have to post a bond for X months in case the lien holder shows up.

If that does not work, hire an attorney, but may cost more than the car value.
Or go to small claims court. Claim you made the two payments, they stopped taking payments and never dunned you or contacted you, now they are out of business.
So in legal terms that is basically giving up on a debt, so the judge may release the lien.

You don't own the car it doesn't sound like which means you can't trade it.

You can't legally sell (or trade in) a car you don't have the title for. If you want a straight answer, go back to the dealer you got the car from.

Simple answer you can't.
No title in YOUR name means its NOT your car.

Noway can you trade it as yours, but dealer should be able to clear up title, but like everything else it will cost you

  • Why didn't Dianne Feinstein hand over Dr. Ford's letter to the fbi after she received and read it? Christine Ford is calling for an fbi investigation. You'd think she'd be smart enough to send that letter to the fbi, or at least ask Feinstein to do so.
  • What's the best gift to give a girl you may never see again? I've been seeing this woman for about 3 months. We never made it official, because we both new I'd be moving in OCT. I care for her alot even though I know we can never be. What are good gifts to say goodbye? She's 35 mother of 1. She likes ford trucks, tattoos, and drinking. Lol. Any ideas would be great!
  • How to get rid of my car without a title, but with the registration in my name? I have a 1998 Ford Taurus. The whole purchase in 2006 was a little shady, and I never acquired the title. Furthermore, the title has a lien on it. I bought it off the street from some guy and I never got the title from him (What was I thinking, yes I know). Long story short, no one has ever claimed it since 2006, I've had it since, and I want to get absolutely rid of it now, and I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
  • Used car dealership doesn't have title there, weird? As a girl, I'm trying to be super paranoid about not being taken average of. I'm looking at a used Ford focus, after.test drive etc, he assured me its a clean non salvage title. I asked if I could see the title to be sure if this. He said he.doesn't have it, some other boss or something does and I have to have a level of trust with him. Do people not normally check the title before buying?
