I suppose that would depend on WHY your transmission light just came on… There could be nothing wrong at all, OR it COULD require a new transmission. Either way, you're not going to find the answer by posting stupid questions on an Internet Q&A forum. Take the car to a REAL mechanic and get it checked out.
If the transmission light coming on always meant the same thing is wrong AND we knew where you lived and how much things cost there, you could get an answer. However neither of those are the case, you need to bring it to a professional.
