97 f150 4.6 transmission oil?

Ok my question is on a 97 f150 4.6 with the auto 4r70w transmission can I use mobile atf d/m oil With a friction modifer? It says for applications that use Ford mercon. Reason I ask is bc 1 I can get as much as I want for free from the shop I work at Compared to 6 bucks a quart. 2 reading up on it I've seen mixed reviews but some saying change to mercon v. Just wondering if it would be ok to use.

Mobil ATF D/M… With no additional additives would be fine. MerconV is backward compatable but not required for proper operation of your transmission, which was designed for Mercon licenced fluid… Every seven years as the license expires the manufacturers recompound and license a backward compatible fluid to maintain the licence fee income from oil companies…

  • Wrong oil in the car and disappearing oil? I have a 2008 ford escape the place where i've been taking my car has been putting in 5W30 oil in my car rather than the 5W20 it is supposed to have. Will this cause damage to my vehicle and could this cause the oil to disappear (it's not being burned off as there's no smell and its not leaking as there's no spots under the car)?
  • Why did the change oil light just come on in my car after an oil change? We have a 2016 Ford Escape and we just had the oil changed about 1000 miles ago at a Fox Ford near us. The oil light was not on when we went there and was not on after we left. It just came on now with a message saying that the oil needed to be changed. So what is causing this? I know the light doesn't need to be reset because it was not on before the oil change or afterwards until now.
