I use the correct oil in my car, the engine overheats, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat?

Hi, I use the correct recommended oil in my car, the engine can overheat, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat or is the a fundamental problem with the engine?
I have a 2007 Ford Fiesta

I'd be checking the coolant, flushing the system and making sure that aspect of the car, (Rad., Thermostat, Water pump, etc) is working correctly before considering the oil; especially if you are using the recommended.

No, your problem with overheating is not oil-related, unless it's low. However, if it's been awhile since you last changed it, it wouldn't hurt to change it now.

It could be low coolant, a thermostat, radiator, etc. But without being there, we won't know.

Presuming you have the right oil in it… Your problem is elsewhere

Dr Bearface, Since when did an "Intercooler" cool 'oil' ?

Forget the waffle from DR + Mrs Bears face. Timbo is right. You need to find the cause. Oil is not at all relevant.

Simple answer is 100% no - you have a different problem

Take it to a garage and get it checked As soon as possible before you wreck the engine but check the coolant with the engine cold.

You should check and make sure the car has the correct amount of coolant. If a car is out of tune it may over heat also. An example of that would be the ignition timing.

Hi so oil does get hot that is why on rally cars the use an inter cooler to keep the viscousity higher or thicker if you like. So it lubricates better.
cars such as ford fiesta used as a family car are less performance so the need for better lubrication is not an issue. The ford fiesta ST has an intercooler. As is a performance engine.
