Can you put 10-40 oil into Ford explorer 2005 with 175,000 miles?
If you owners manual states that 10w-40 oil is an allowable oil viscosity, yes. Mileage doesn't matter… Just the owners manual specification.
What are the numers stamped on the oil fill cap? Stick with that.
The recommended oil is 5W-20.
I would not use 10W-40 in any of my vehicle's engines… Unless they are consuming more than a quart per 1000 miles of driving. If that would happen, I would start looking for a replacement vehicle and run any oil in it til it is sold.
That's what I'd use, Castrol GTX 10-40
