Will a Ford 2.3 engine bolt directly up to a 73 2.0 liter transmission? How do you know this?

No such thing as a "2.0 transmission" Transmissions have their own designations since there may be multiple transmission options for a given vehicle. For example A new Mustang has two possible types of 6 speed manual transmissions available ( the Ford-built MT-82 and the Tremac built TR-3160.) as well as a 6 speed automatic (6R80). So in order to give an accurate answer the model of car and the type of transmission, and the year and model of the donor car is needed.

Hmm… Good point.
The engine is in a 1953 MG-TD Mark II. Pulled it out of a garage after sitting for 30 plus years. Main and rod bearings are rusted.
It came out of a 73 Pinto and is a 2.0 Liter engine, with a four speed manual transmission.
I'm just trying to figure out if the trans will fit an early Ford 2.3 engine.
